magicspix: Yep 52. I recall when I bought my first car in 1961 I could buy 4 gallons of petrol and have change from a £1

magicspix: Then buy a dinner plate size pork pie and a pint in a Harlington pub for one and tenpence halfpenny ! How times have changed. I bought my detatched bungalow in Spicky in 1966 on a third acre plot of land for £2950 then had a large brick garage added for...

lutonmadpig: My grandson had to go down to Head Office in Sandy a week ago. Round trip train fare was, I believe , about £140. Even worse, he had to go to King's Cross to get to Sandy

1952hatter: my Granddaughter every couple of months has to go to Nottingham from either Luton or Bedford. Her company pay for first class travel which is just shy of £300.

lutonmadpig: This was bog standard wooden benches and chickens 52. Flying is cheaper than first class rail

lutonfan66: Do they run direct trains to Nottingham from Bedford again, 52? I know they’d stopped for a while, meaning changes at Kettering and Leicester which must’ve been very frustrating!

bowlerhatter: Current return fare Hull to Sandy is £75.70 It does not involve Kings Cross! Don’t you just hate a smartarse?

1952hatter: no 66, change at Kettering. She goes from Luton or Bedford because of just one change. If she went from MK there are 2 and from Leighton Buzzard 3.

magicspix: Bowler hatter. Is that by flying, because that was the initial discussion, train fares v flying. Maybe you weren't awake then - smartbum.

lutonmadpig: Just been told it was £80 Bowler, my error.ni smart stuff, you're just getting facts correct. Well done. However, your route is multi stop, Hull to London on stop. Luton, however involves London. Roughly £100 off peak return.( I am informed)

lutonmadpig: However Bowler, eternally indebted to you for the correction. My grandson s travel usually involves peak hours too, which can change things a bit. Also, nice to see you posting here , welcome. This really is a friendly forum, grudges buried.

bowlerhatter: Not bearing grudges Pete. I just like accuracy. Sadly I can’t change 😎It’s just that if you choose to pay more for convenience then you can’t claim extortion!!!!

lutonmadpig: Fair go Bowler, I like to be correct, and am happy to be corrected. It's a haul from Hull. Diving across Donny station and the Peterbro' station can be a trial with arthritis. I'm forced to pay, Extortion? That's relative I guess
